The Israeli military carried out an airstrike in southern Beirut, killing senior Hezbollah military figure Ibrahim Aqil on September 19. The strike claimed 14 lives reported Reuters, causing significant damage in the Jamous area of Beirut's southern suburbs. Hours after the attack, IDF spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari shared a video taking responsibility for the attack. “We are working according to the goals that have been defined” stated Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari. Earlier on Sep 17, an Israeli attack jolted Hezbollah, when thousands of pagers exploded simultaneously leaving thousands injured. The two sides have been engaged in cross-border attacks following the outbreak of Gaza conflict last October.

Lebanon's Hezbollah has confirmed that two of its top commanders, were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut. Lebanese health officials now put the death toll for the strike at 31, including three children. The attack has raised regional fears of an all-out war between Israel and Hezbollah, which is designated a terrorist group by many countries.

Hezbollah expanded the range of its rocket attacks overnight to strike wider and deeper into the areas of north Israel. Times of Israel said the shift in Hezbollah's attack strategy puts some two million Israelis in range of their strikes. The IDF said that rockets were fired “toward civilian areas” in areas like greater Haifa and Jezreel Valley.
