The Watchtower Society Wants Money, Money And More Money!

The Watchtower Society has for some time now, secretly admired the harlotrous ways of her wicked counterpart, Christendom. Yes, the many advantages Christendom has gained over the years, adroitly avoiding any 'pains of life', persecution, or discomforts that are the result of maintaining a chaste and virtuous standing before Jehovah. Could it be that the Watchtower Society now wants the prestige, the opulent lifestyle, and the recognition that only the world can give? The Watchtower Society may want the world to accept them now, because she finally has what the world recognizes - money, wealth, and even fame. -- Please ponder Ezekiel Chapter 23. [Also, see link: http://www.yorww.com/sisters.html ]

The evidence is quite clear. The Watchtower Society has recently placed considerable interest and emphasis upon building projects. These are intended to enhance the image of Jehovah's Witnesses to the world. In addition, the Watchtower Society has instituted some new financial arrangements that have placed the brotherhood under considerable stress, financially speaking. Let's notice a few of these:

  • 1) For example, $50,000,000.00 in materials alone for the 684-acre Patterson project, to be completed around 1995/1996.

  • 2) Also, another $35,000,000.00 for a new dwelling tower in Brooklyn, NY completed in 1993.

  • 3) Plus, the new "Complete Donation" arrangement by which all literature is distributed in the U.S.A. since spring of 1990, obviously done to avoid paying taxes to the IRS!

  • 4) Further, the new arrangement of providing all traveling overseers in the U.S.A. with complete expenses (lease cars, medical insurance, dental insurance) proves to be quite expensive since these men (and their wives) are usually advanced in age. This has already cast a very expensive BURDEN on the brothers, most of whom are domestic, non-professional or blue-collar workers.

  • 5) These ones are to be pitied for their lack of foresight in the constant building of new Kingdom Halls and Assembly Halls on a local level. Therefore, we can certainly see that the Watchtower Society has placed the brotherhood under more stress monetarily than ever before.

The Watchtower Society claimed to their membership, in the spring of 1990, that it was going to change its method of literature distribution to a "complete donation" basis to assist the general public in getting the "life-saving" literature at no cost. Yes, this really seemed like a noble gesture, a magnanimous effort on the Watchtower Society's part to, in effect, actually give the literature away to the general public, or at least, put it on a "complete donation" basis and make it accessible to the public. And of course, the individuals who would actually distribute such literature were accorded the privilege of picking up the tab or cost of such literature distribution. Yes, the actual publisher of Jehovah's Witness was expected to now only directly contribute with time, effort, and money in this distribution of the literature, but also to literally pay for all literature distributed in addition to turning in all monies collected as a donation! However, what was the Watchtower Society's real motive in changing to a "complete donation" basis in the distribution of their literature? Was it a noble gesture to help indigent, poor ones read their literature as they claimed?

Let's turn to the Washington Post Newspaper article "States Can Tax Sales of Religious Material by Church Groups," dated Thursday, January 18,1990. The article states:

"The Supreme Court ruled unanimously yesterday that states may tax sales of religious material by religious groups, rejection claims by a variety of
denominations that forcing them to pay such taxes would infringe on the free exercise of religion." -- Section A pg. 10

Did you see it?

Yes, the Supreme Court made a pivotal ruling that affects 'religions who distribute literature'. They ruled that the state can now TAX "religious material" distributed by "religious groups." Therefore, the Watchtower Society changed their policy of literature distribution 6 weeks after the Supreme Court ruled against their method of literature distribution! Yes, they changed to a "complete donation" basis to avoid paying taxes. It is just that simple! No, they were not concerned with helping anybody but themselves with this new method of literature distribution! But wait, there's more. Let's notice who the actual litigants a this Supreme Court hearing were. The article continues:

"A number of religious groups, including the National Council of Churches of Christ, the California Society for Krishna Consciousness and the Watchtower
Bible and Tract Society, filed briefs in Jimmy Swaggart Ministries v. California Board of Equalization backing the evangelist's effort to have the taxes
declared unconstitutional."

Can you believe it???

The Watchtower Society is right in the middle of this fight, 'backing efforts,' to avoid paying taxes. Yes, the Watchtower Society takes in millions of dollars from their distribution of literature in the country. And so, if the Watchtower Society were taxed on this same literature, they would have to pay huge amounts of money. Therefore to prevent this, the Watchtower Society was willing to become bed-fellows with the likes of "Jimmy Swaggart," "the National Council of Churches," and the "California Society for Krishna Consciences," in order to keep from paying what is rightfully due the governments -- their taxes. -- "The Report" Book (1994) pages 130-132.

***Please note: A $1 million dollar chandelier hangs in the lobby of the Stanley Theatre [owned by Watchtower Society], while 50 congregations in Maputo City (Mozambique, Africa) struggle to build one single kingdom hall between them! -- See August 15th, 1992 Watchtower magazine pg. 24, paragraph #1.***
